Hair Do Head Shot
Although it has firm and respected roots in the portrait world, I'm not a big fan of the blown white background.
I much prefer a subtle gradient and opaque tones.
The lighting for these headshots was provided by 2 Elinchrom FX 400's modified with a 65cm softbox as key camera right and a honeycomb grid for a rim light on camera left. The fill light was reflected with a 1.8m x 1.2m sunfire Lastolite reflector also on camera left.
True to my roots a Nikon SB-800 was neatly tucked behind the model, and gelled with a Lee Filters B53 Blue 3 inside the diffusion dome.
A huge round of applause goes to stylist, Marina Andreeva, her sister, Victoria (the lovely model), and also Marina's good friend Maria for translating my dodgy English.
Well done to all you guys and good luck with the competition!
Another mammoth sized thanks goes to Henrik Kettunen for providing the gear and the studio space. As always Henrik, your a champion!

Northern Lights - Aurora Borealis - Greetings from Lapland!
Some shots from this week. I just came back from Lapland where I for the first time had possibility to take pictures of this quite interesting phenomen. Outdoor in Muonio it was minus 26 degree Celsius, around midnight, and my feet was freezing. But I got my first pictures of this green thing.

Photographer : Reijo Juurinen
Reijo Juurinen has been a professional nature photographer for over 25 years in Finland. He is known for very nice Lapland -views. Now a days when he is over 60, he mainly likes to work i his backyard, feeding and photographing common animals, red squirrel, hedgehogs, and some more rare ones like flying squirrel,
and smaller things he finds there. One typical thing for Reijo is that he likes to ad some humoristic things in his photos.
He lives in Veikkola, only a 5 minutes walk from Nuuksio National Park. So if the backyard is not enough, and he want´s to meet moose or to pic berries - there is always the big forest, lungs of Helsinki.
